Happy Birthday, Steve & Gary!

A new year has arrived, along with, as usual, a birthday for everyone's favorite foul-mouthed portal turrets. The Inkwell's got some new polish on it, along with lots of white, grey, and red streamers and balloons. There's also an "Aperture Science Turret Redemption Unit" sign hung up above the door outside, which elected some flat "Ha. Ha."s from the boys.

Still, it's a party, it is fun, and everyone is welcome! Let's celebrate!

"Well," says AL, "try to focus on the important bits. 'This is Victor, this is where he came from, this is what happened and this is where he ended up and why'. Do you have any examples to look at? Other characters? Maybe that'll give you an idea of a good length?" She's grasping at straws but trying to help.

Vic nods. "I know, I know, I'm probably making too big a deal out of it. . . And yeah, actually, some of the people in the game already have their applications up for general viewing. My one problem is that they allow links for Original Universe characters when it comes to history and setting, and a lot of people make use of that." She shrugs. "I really just have to buckle down and spend like a hour fine-tuning it properly."

AL makes a face. "Good luck on that. Other than that, anything else new and exciting?"

"Thanks," Vic says, smirking at her face. "And the main other thing that's been going on is me playing 'Portal 2.'"

"Yeah, she finally owns a game from our canon," Steve speaks up. "Can you believe it?"

"I'm just pissed off about that whole crap turret section," Gary grumbles.

"I'd ask if you're gonna get absorbed in this one like you were with 'Alice', but I sense you've already finished the game." Yay alter ego checking your journal, lol. "Short one, eh?"

"Turrets generally are things that shoot you, yeah," says AL to Steve and Gary. "Like the towers on the Death Star."

Luke winces. "Don't remind me."

"Sorry."

"I'd say I got pretty absorbed," Vic says. "And I dunno about short -- I think I played for pretty good chunks of time there. And I'd often linger in places to try and hear all the dialogue. Of which there's a lot."

"No, not pissed off because of that!" Gary says. "We're pissed off because it turns out there were other turrets with real personalities in there, and they kept getting thrown in the crusher!"

"The real turrets aren't much for conversation, let me tell you," Steve adds, sounding disgusted.

AL shrugs. "Seems that it took you longer to beat Madness Returns, though maybe it was just because your laptop was having problems at the time."

"The alter ego played a game or two like that, that had a bunch of dialogue within the action. The Prince of Persia games for Wii and Playstation 2 if I recall. You'd be doing something, then the Prince would decide to monologue for a bit. Often you want to just stop in your tracks and just listen cuz sometimes it's funny."

"Woop, sorry," AL says quickly. "I guess be lucky you weren't one of them...or two of them as the case may be?"

"Urgh, don't remind me," Vic mumbles with a shudder. "And there' was some more sidepath stuff in Alice. And more fighting. Portal's all about the puzzles, and if you solve those quickly. . ."

She snickers. "I know. Portal's got tons of dialogue like that. It can even kill you in some instances -- the final boss can come pretty close to out-talking at least one of the final timers if you give him the chance. I'm pretty sure he could run out the last one if allowed."

"Yeah -- we weren't crap turrets, we were regular turrets two jokers took off the production line and gave different AI to," Steve explains. "Since we have working gun, we were saved the fate of 'redemption' once SHE took over."
