This One's Special

Not only is it Dee's birthday, it's the anniversary of Temporal Experiment #1 -- and the calendar matches up with it being on a Saturday! So that's pretty cool, isn't it? The Inkwell's done up in silver, red, and yellow this time, with little toy DeLoreans on the tables and paper fire trails to hold up the balloons. Just like on Tuesday with Doc, there's fun and merriment to be had, so stop on by!

Everyone's favorite turrets are up first, using their motorized wagon to drive themselves and their gift over to Dee. "Happy birthday, squirt!" they chorus. "We did the usual thing of getting you useful stuff."

Dee grins and pats their tops. "Thanks guys!" she says, picking up the box.

Or, well, trying to. The box proves to be rather heavy, and it takes some help from Doc to get it onto the table. Opening it reveals the reason why -- it's full of various DeLorean car parts. "Oh! Well, some of these had to be hard to find," she notes, picking up a piece of a transmission.

"Oh yeah," Steven confirms. "But we figured we ought to get you some just in case you need maintenance."

"This way Doc doesn't have to spend the time and money tracking 'em all down," Gary adds, using his laser to indicate the scientist. "This is all on Aperture's dime, baby."

"Yeah -- the problems of being a rare car," Dee sighs, then smiles again. "Thanks a lot, guys! Hopefully I won't need any of them for a while, but it's good to have them."

"Very good," Doc agrees. "I'd say something about using another's credit card, but -- it's Aperture." You don't really complain about these things with the just-this-side-of-evil laboratory.

"You're welcome! May you not need to use our gift for many years to come," Gary says, waggling his gun arms.

"And yeah, don't worry about them -- Cave Johnson's got surprisingly good credit for a guy who bought all those moon rocks," Steve says. "GLaDOS has probably been hacking the bank long before us."

Marty's up next, with a smaller and much lighter box wrapped in gold paper. "Here you go -- hoping you'll find 'em interesting," he says, handing it over.

"Thanks Marty!" Dee rips open the box to find a bunch of those little puzzle books, like Sudoku and crosswords. "Oooh -- fun!"

"Yeah, I figured any kid of Doc's is gonna want something that challenges her head at least a little," Marty says with a grin. "I bet they'll all be filled in before November's over."

"There's a lot of them -- give me til December," Dee jokes back, before giving him a hug. "But thanks. This'll be great to fill the quieter moments."

"You're welcome," Marty says, ruffling her hair. "Happy birthday."

Doc goes next, with a smaller silver box. "Happy birthday, Dee," he says, putting it on the table before here. "It's actually some assembly required, but I'll explain once you've got it open."

This certainly sparks off Dee's curiosity, and she opens the box to find some wiring, and two flat silver panels. She examines them a moment. "Looks like future tech. . .what are they, Dad?"

"Thumbprint-activated locks that you can install in your car," Doc reveals with a grin. "I got the idea after watching the events of October 21st with Vic earlier in the week. I know she has some of my fanfic selves use these to help keep you from getting stolen -- now that you're time-traveling in the Nexus, I figured it was a good idea to get some myself."

"Ooooh! Yeah, the last thing I want is another Biff," Dee says, shuddering. "I mean, I bet I could just kick somebody out who tried to get in me now, but I like your idea better. And new tech's always good." She wraps her arms around Doc's middle. "Thanks a lot, Daddy!"

"Yeah -- and in the Nexus, there's always the possibility of stumbling on someone worse," Doc agrees, shuddering. "Better safe than sorry, definitely." He grins and squeezes her back. "You're welcome, sweetie. I'm glad you like it."

Forgotten comes up next, carrying a medium-sized box with bronze paper. "Happy Birthday, Dee," he says as Moonlight, resting on his shoulder, trills his own good wishes. "I think you'll find these fun."

"More fun than your dragon?" Dee jokes, before opening the box. "Hey -- the Happy Meal toys! And the boxes too! I never got a chance to see those before."

Moonlight whirrs and flaps down to the table, picking up the Doc Brown toy in a claw and sending it rolling along the table. "Yeah -- I talked to Vic, and she said it might be a cute present," Forgotten says, catching the toy before it can fall off the edge. "They've even got puzzles and things. Perhaps not as fun as a fire lizard, but they'll keep you occupied at least."

"I'll hang 'em up on my wall once I've done all the puzzles," Dee decides, fiddling with the Verne Junkmobile. "This is cool. Thanks Victor!"

"You're welcome," Forgotten says, sending the DeLorean back toward her. "Enjoy!"

The muses and the mun tromp in after a bit. "Sorry this is a bit late," Vic says. "Spent most of the early afternoon working on my Halloween costume and watching the appropriate bits of BTTF."

"We've got a gift we think is worth the wait, though," NonTrilogy Marty says, handing over a small flat present. "Happy birthday, Dee!"

"I'll be the judge of that," Dee says with a little smirk, before tearing off the paper. And promptly squealing. "Season 1 of Transformers?! Oh yeah, definitely worth it!"

"Oh, we thought you'd like that," OckDoc said, tentacles sniggering. "It's the classic 80s version, of course. Have fun with it!"

"Mine's hopefully something you'll get a kick out of too," Vic says, plopping a rather thick present on the table in front of her.

"Nothing like the 80s," Dee agrees with bright smile. "Thanks a ton!"

Dee rips off the paper to reveal A Matter of Time: The Unauthorized Back To The Future Lexicon. "Ooooh! Gonna have to look myself up," she says with a laugh. "Thanks, Vic!"

"You're welcome -- I figured it was appropriate," Vic says with her own grin. "I would have gotten you the Chronology, but I decided to wait until I got a copy for myself too." AKA, wait until around Christmas, kid. "Let this tide you over until then."

And in come AL and the guys.

"Hi, folks!" says AL, waving to everyone. "Happy birthday, Dee!"

"Hi Lisa!" Dee will give you a hug. "Thanks! How you doing?"

AL hugs back. "Oh, great. Not much has changed since Tuesday." She laughs. "How about here?"

Dee giggles too. "About the same except for me getting older. I got the BTTF Happy Meal toys, look!" She shows off the Einstein in the train one.

"Oh, cool!" she says, picking up the train toy and holding it in the palm of her hand. She uses telekinesis to make it fly around Dee's head. "I haven't seen those before. They're neat."

And Moonlight's promptly going to chase it because yay flying thing! "Be careful with it!" Forgotten yells as he tries to snag it in his jaws. "It doesn't need tooth marks!"

Dee and Vic both giggle. "I've actually got the whole set myself, plus spares of the DeLorean and Marty on his hoverboard," Vic reports. "I got the spare Doc at a toy convention way back when, and I rescued the spare Marty from a school fish tank."

AL quickly TK's the train into Dee's hand. "Sorry."

She blinks. "A fish tank? Really? What was it doing in there...except entertaining some fish, I guess..."

"It's okay -- he was just playing," Dee says, looking over as Moonlight lands on the table in front of her, eyes turning purple with sadness. She pats the dragon to comfort him.

Vic shrugs. "Damned if I know. I just saw it on the side counter, grabbed it before class started, dried it off, and took it home."

AL pets Moonlight, too. "We'll have to get you some toys that fly so you can chase them."

She nods. "Well I'm sure it going to someone who can appreciate it is better than sitting in a fish tank."

Moonlight whirrs happily, eyes lightening to a content blue. "Yeah -- like little whirligigs and stuff!" Dee says, liking this plan. "I bet you could build those, Dad!"

"I could certainly give it a shot," Doc nods, smiling.

"That's what I thought," Vic agrees, smirking. "Not like anybody missed it."
