Happy Birthday, Steve & Gary!

A new year has arrived, along with, as usual, a birthday for everyone's favorite foul-mouthed portal turrets. The Inkwell's got some new polish on it, along with lots of white, grey, and red streamers and balloons. There's also an "Aperture Science Turret Redemption Unit" sign hung up above the door outside, which elected some flat "Ha. Ha."s from the boys.

Still, it's a party, it is fun, and everyone is welcome! Let's celebrate!

Fashionably late AL and the guys wander in.

"Happy birthday, guys!" she says. "Sorry we're late. Made a wrong turn at Albuquerque." She shrugs.

"Hey there!" the turrets chorus, as the others wave.

"Oh come on, you're from another planet," Gary says. "Your excuse should be you overshot Earth and had to turn around."

[alienlisa]

They wave back.

AL blinks. "That's...that's brilliant. Data, remember that line for me."

The android nods and his eyes glaze over briefly as he processess the request. "I have recorded the quotation into my memory banks."

"Thank you. What's up, guys? Victors, you enjoying those little pianos I sent over?"

(Good thing about DW...Work's computers don't block them like they do LJ)

"Hear that? Beautiful lady thinks we're brilliant," Steve brags.

"Yes, yes, your egos shall know no bounds. . ." BB-Victor says, then grins bright at Lisa. "Oh, they're amazing! Thank you so much!"

AL snerks at BB-Victor, then says, "Yeah, I thought you guys would like those. Sounds like a grand piano but is travel size. An officer on the Enterprise had one a while back. And crawled through almost every deck of the ship to find the most acoustically perfect spot on it."

"It's wonderful," BB-Victor says. "And I don't blame her. Such an amazing invention deserves only the best."

"I have to agree," FV-Victor nods. "Having a piano you can roll up and carry with you. . .well! If only I could have something like that in my own time."

[alienlisa]

"Well, where they were, their duet was heard down in engineering. Several decks down. So I guess it worked."

"I was present on that occasion and I recall Geordi saying he heard music," says Data. "I did not hear anything."

"Commander Daren and Captain Picard were playing that lullaby he learned on Kataan. They stopped before you got into the junction far enough to hear."

Data nods, accepting this.

"Too bad," is DG-Victor's opinion. "A good piano recital is -- well, I don't know if I have the words to describe it properly. I've never been good with words." The other Victors shake their heads in agreement.

"They're be other chances, I'm sure," BB-Victor says. "How are things on your world, Lisa?"

AL thinks a moment. "Magical?"

"Very quiet," she says. "We don't have a lot to do outside of the blog, which hasn't been updated in two years. We really only get out when we come here. Not that that's a bad thing," she adds quickly. "We love coming here and hanging out with you guys and gals. I will be planning a party for the Doctors' anniversary - it's the big 5-0 this year, but that's all the way in November." She shrugs. "So, yeah. It's very quiet. We just kind of go about our day and that's that."

In my defense, I haven't updated the blog because I want to make a new layout and without FrontPage I haven't had the motivation.

"That's a good start," DG-Victor says with a smile.

"That's how it's like for most of us these days," Marty nods. "Not much happening besides these parties. Though Vic has some plans to get the usual Nexus gang--" Marty indicates himself, Doc, Dee, DG-Victor, and Alice "--out and about some more. And of course she's hoping to get FVV there into that other place."

"Ryan's Gulch," FV-Victor says, twisting his tie a little. "She's working on the application."

AL nods. "Good luck on that. Don't take it hard if you don't get in, though. Some people just don't understand us AUs. Hell, I represent one of the most hated forms of fan fiction, but it doesn't bother me. Never has, never will. There's a reason all my stories start with a warning."

"Thank you," FV-Victor says. "Vic already asked them if I was even the sort of character they'd accept, and they said I could at least put in an application. So that's something."

"Yeah, if I could just get the history section to work, I think I'd be all right," Vic grumbles. "Why is a movie that's only 77 minutes long so hard to summarize sometimes! Not to mention the rest of his backstory. . ."

"Don't look at me, you're the one who insisted on this AU."

"At least you have a start," AL tells FV-Victor.

"You do tend to steer towards some complicated kind of crossovers," AL tells V. "I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, of course, but seems that it makes throwing them at the games a little difficult, no?"

"I know, I know," Vic says. "In my defense, I wasn't intending to put him in a game -- just memes. But then I stumbled across Ryan's Gulch, and. . .you know anything about Bioshock?"

AL makes a so-so gesture. "I know of it. Not a lot. I know it's a game. And I read your ficlets."

[crossover_chick]

"Well, it's set in this underwater city called Rapture," Vic fills her in. "It was supposed to be a capitalist's paradise, buuut. . .well, the first game starts off after a massive civil war in the city, and it just sort of goes downhill from there. The game I've got my eye on is sort of a prequel, set in the city's glory days right before the city falls."

[alienlisa]

AL makes a thoughtful face. "I guess prequel so it doesn't interfere with the canon of the real thing." She blinks. "And Victor's involved how?"

"Yeah, pretty much." Vic grins. "Well, there's a joke in the second one involving an unstable teleport plasmid. They're using that as an excuse for people from different universe to be pulled into Rapture." She gestures toward FV-Victor. "Tada."

"She's planning to have me land in the local cemetery too," FV-Victor says, rolling his eyes.

[alienlisa]

AL nods. "I see." She practically hears FV-Victor's eyeroll. "Naturally. And you're having trouble both summarizing Corpse Bride and explaining his 'Alice' tie-in?"

"I don't see why -- you've done the latter twice now," FV-Victor says, frowning. "Once for my tumblr and once for my Dreamwidth journal. Why are you having such trouble now?"

"Because -- because I just want to make it the best it can be," Vic says, fidgeting. "I want to give you the best possible chance to GET in."

[alienlisa]

"Well~" says AL. "In her defense, at least with your Dreamwidth, it seems to be just a quick blurb. An application, I'd figure, needs something more detailed. Plus if there's question, yeah you'd want to give it extra spit and polish." Beat. "Metaphorically."

"I suppose that's true," FV-Victor allows. "Especially in my profile -- maybe we could expand that later."

"Later," Vic says. "I've got the basics down pat, it's just -- I don't want it to be too short, but I also don't want it to be too LONG. I don't want anyone's eyes to glaze over while reading."

[alienlisa]

"Well," says AL, "try to focus on the important bits. 'This is Victor, this is where he came from, this is what happened and this is where he ended up and why'. Do you have any examples to look at? Other characters? Maybe that'll give you an idea of a good length?" She's grasping at straws but trying to help.

Vic nods. "I know, I know, I'm probably making too big a deal out of it. . . And yeah, actually, some of the people in the game already have their applications up for general viewing. My one problem is that they allow links for Original Universe characters when it comes to history and setting, and a lot of people make use of that." She shrugs. "I really just have to buckle down and spend like a hour fine-tuning it properly."

AL makes a face. "Good luck on that. Other than that, anything else new and exciting?"
