Dragon -- Well, Fire-Lizard Tamer

"Here we are."

Forgotten Vows carefully pushes open the door with one hand, the other cradling a tiny silver creature. Said tiny silver creature looks remarkably like a miniature dragon -- a very sleepy one. It cheeps as they enter the main room of the Inkwell, looking around with curious but droopy eyes. Forgotten smiles and pets its head with a finger. "Welcome home, little one."

DGVictor just happens to be reading in the front room when his alternate returns. He looks up as he hears Forgotten Vows address something --

and his eyes go wide. "What -- is that a fire lizard?" he asks, setting aside his book and hurrying over to see.

"Well, that's what the meme in Bakerstreet called them," Forgotten says as the little creature lifts its head to look at the newcomer. Its eyes turn yellow, and Forgotten feels a wave of confusion emanating from his new friend. "Er -- think of him as a twin," he says, petting it some more to keep it calm. "You've seen one before?" he adds to DGV.

"In the Nexus -- Clark's alternate Clark Luthor has one," DGVictor confirms, smiling down at the tiny creature. "His was larger though, gold, and a female. Zara. She was sweet -- very curious and playful." He tilts his head. "Is yours a girl or a boy?"

"Boy -- a 'relaxed, lazy and gentle' one, if I recall the comment gifting him to me correctly," Forgotten says, as the fire lizard settles down again. "I haven't named him yet. He's fresh out of the egg."

Lucy and Alice come in just then, chatting together. "So yeah, she's sick and I -- ooh!"

Lucy rushes up to Forgotten, eyes wide as she takes in the little creature nestled in his hand. "You -- you own a dragon now?!"

"A fire lizard, technically," Victor says as the lizard sniffs at Lucy. "Not quite the same thing, but very very close, I imagine."

Alice seems torn between a "how cute" reaction and a worried one. "Fire lizard. . .I assume that means it can breathe fire. . ."

"Alice, I would NEVER let this little thing burn down the Inkwell," Forgotten promises, holding up his free hand. "It could be the name's just a name."

"Actually, it CAN breathe fire -- but it's got to chew a special rock to do so," the mun says, suddenly popping through the doors. She's trailed by a curious Tie-Twister, along with Victoria and Emily. "So we're safe, Alice. Feel free to squee."

"Chew a special rock?" Forgotten looks down at his new companion as it takes in all the new people. "These are curious creatures, aren't they?"

"They are, but they're neat," Vic says, grinning. "I've been trawling the web for info on them ever since you got your silver buddy there. Judging from what I've learned, he's gonna grow really fast in the first couple of weeks of life, so he's gonna need a lot of food. They're beach-dwellers in their canon, so you'll want to give him fish. He'll also need oiling to keep a healthy skin. He'll end up about two feet or so long once he's full-grown." She smiles faintly. "You already know about the whole 'telepathic bond' business."

"Goodness -- I'm going to have to write all this down," Forgotten mumbles, shaking his head. "And yes, I do -- feeling that connection form was a bit surprising." The silver lizard trills and snuggles into his hand, projecting feelings of contentment. He smiles. "But it's nice."

"So -- you can read its mind?" Victoria says, eyes wide.

"Sort of -- it's smart, but not really in the sense of knowing words," Vic says. "It's more feelings and pictures."

"That's still amazing."

Emily giggles and leans over it. "And it's such a cutie too! What's his -- or her -- name?"

"I've basically been feeling whatever he feels," Forgotten confirms with a nod. "And no, I haven't really had the chance--"

He stops short, suddenly giving Emily an odd look. A memory flits across his consciousness, and he looks down at the fire lizard. ". . .Moonlight?"

The lizard lifts his head, sensing that its bond likes the name. Forgotten grins and strokes its wing, getting another wave of contentment. "Moonlight," he confirms with a nod.

"What's this about moonlight?" And here comes the fourth Victor of the day, to set off more confusion in poor little Moonlight.

Forgotten grins and holds up the lizard. "You're not the only one with an unusual pet now."

"Bakerstreet basically had an 'adopt a not-quite-dragon' meme," Vic adds. "I just couldn't resist."

"Oh, I see!" Butterfly Boy grins at the little creature. "That's amazing. . ." Then his smile flips. "But -- what are you going to do with it? I mean, yes, it's certainly welcome to live here, but. . .you can't really take it to your game with you."

"Yes, I know," Forgotten says, with a concerned frown. "And there's not often memes starring pets on bakerstreet. . ."

Vic, however, gives them a grin. "No -- but there's always tumblr. Rewriting the scene of you finding the egg should be a snap. I've already established that forest is full of dimensional rifts, after all."

Forgotten brightens immediately. "That would be perfect! And then he'd have Bayard and Splatter to play with too." A wave of eager happiness tells him Moonlight likes that idea.

"And hopefully your Alice there will like him too," Alice says with a little smile. "Though I'm sure there won't be any problems as soon as she learns he can't burn the house down without that rock."

"Yes -- we'll just have to make sure Caine doesn't try to feed him any mysterious substances to see what happens," Forgotten says with a frown.

"If he does, just set the little guy loose in his treehouse," Lucy says, smirking evilly. "That'll teach him."

Forgotten holds back a snort. "He'd make me do the repairs, though. Might be worth it in the end, however." He shrugs and holds Moonlight close as the little fire lizard decides it's naptime. "That's a worry for another day, though. Right now I need to find a warm nest for him -- and a food bowl."

"Leave it to me," Vic says. "I've been wanting one of my Victors to have a dragon for AGES. The least I can do is help with the whole care and feeding business."

"We'll help too, as much as we're able," Tie-Twister promises.

"Thank you -- it's much appreciated," Forgotten says, feeling quite loved. He gently strokes his fire lizard's head. "Welcome to the family, Moonlight."
