Easter Fool's Birthday?

Because, technically, it is also Easter Monday.

Regardless, we all know the drill by now, don’t we? It’s a birthday, and it’s Simon’s! Honestly, he’s quite satisfied with the mun’s declaration that he’ll never be the victim of an April Fool’s prank here as celebration, but hey – having the Inkwell decorated with Easter egg-patterned balloons and getting presents from his friends is pretty nice too. And who’s going to pass up free cake?

So come in and have some fun! The mun’s only played one prank today, and it’s not even on Dreamwidth – you’re safe.

The turrets have left a big box on the counter, wrapped in Aperture blue and orange. “Happy birthday, buddy!” they chorus. “Think you’ll like this one.”

“Thanks,” Simon says, smiling as he rips open the paper. The smile wavers as he sees what’s inside, but only slightly. “Combustible lemons? Okay, yeah, definitely useful for me – but do you mind if I ask--”

“No worries – they won’t explode if you just jostle the box or something,” Gary says, having anticipated the question.

“Yeah, they’re kind of like Vic’s plush one,” Steve adds. “There’s a pin you need to pull first.”

“Ah, great,” Simon says, relieved. “Sorry, guys, but I’m sure you understand why I had to check.” He pats the box. “But yeah, like I said, good gift. Thanks!”

“Not a problem buddy!” Steve says, waving his targeting laser in a vague smile shape.

“Yeah – besides, we would have thought you were weird if you didn’t ask,” Gary adds, getting a snicker from his friend. "Happy birthday!"

Alice steps up with a small plastic bag with a red bow on top. Inside are what look like miniature red roses, minus stems. “Here you are,” she says, presenting it to him.

“Er, thanks,” Simon says, taking it with a curious look. He opens the bag and takes a closer look. “What are they, candy? They look kind of like that.”

“Sort of – it’s metaessence!” Alice grins. “I got the idea after reading one of Forgotten’s threads with Do You Suppose – she described the roses she got for defeating things as candied. So Vic and I whipped up some little candied roses for you to use! They can’t heal too much, since they’re small, but just one should take care of any minor cuts and scrapes you might pick up.”

“Great!” Simon jiggles the bag. “Yeah, I could definitely use this. . . Are they rose-flavored?”

Speaking of Forgotten Vows, here he is now, also carrying a bag -- though his is opaque brown. It's tied with a neat blue bow. "I managed to think up a present for you," he says, casting another apologetic look the turret's way. "Happy birthday, Simon!"

"Stop worrying about it -- you can make it up to us next year," Steve calls.

"Thanks, Forgotten," Simon says, taking the bag. Opening it, he sees -- a pile of glowing rocks. "Huh. Are these like those battery-powered decorative ones you sometimes find in holiday shops, or. . ."

"Now where am I going to find one of those in my time period?" Forgotten Vows says with a laugh. "I don't have the benefit of Butterfly Boy's level of technology. No, I made those myself! They're glowstones -- the light is magical in nature. They last until they're hit by natural sunlight. I figured, in case you ever found yourself without a torch -- or flashlight -- you could use one of those."

"Oh yeah, I forgot you're supposed to be Mr. Wizard!" Simon says with a laugh. "Wow, neat. Yeah, I can always use something that's not going to run out of battery life on me. Thank you!"

And here is Lucy, carrying a smallish box wrapped in green and yellow stripes. "Happy birthday Simon!" she says, presenting it to him with a smile.

"Thank you, Lucy!" Simon rips it open to discover -- "A taser! More weaponry, I see," he smirks. Not that he's complaining.

"Yup!" Lucy smirks back. "To go with your combustible lemons. Seriously, though, you probably needed one less-lethal offering in the armory -- not every enemy you face is gonna be undead after your brains."

"Yeah, good point," Simon nods. "I'd prefer not to have to go all Rambo on the more mundane threats." He smiles at her warmly. "Thanks a bunch."

The mun and muses tromp in in their usual parade, waving to all and sundry. "Hey guys!"

TeenDoc grins at Simon and tosses him a package. "Happy birthday! It's something we think you need."

"Well, why else would you be giving it to me?" Simon asks jokingly, opening it up. He pulls out what looks like a wristwatch. "Suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you're giving me something to do with time -- and you're right, I do need one."

"Actually, that doesn't just tell time," OckDoc says, his tentacles chirping. "It's also a wrist-mounted GPS. Now you never fear getting lost again."

"Or, at least, you can fear it at least 92% less," Jules adds from over his father's shoulder. "Though that's just a rough estimate."

"Oh! Definitely something I need, yeah!" Simon laughs, strapping it on. "Thanks a bunch, guys. No more mysterious roads for me!"

AL and the guys pop in only fashionably late.

"Hi, folks!" she chirps as the guys place the cakes on the bar like always. "Happy birthday, Simon!"

--giving of gifts placed here, though if you want to be funny AL could've gotten him an album by the real Simon and Garfunkel, lol--

"Hey Lisa," Simon says, accepting his present. "Thanks!" Her choice of gift does get a slight groan. "Yes, very funny," he says, smirking at her.

"So, what's up? Anything new going on?"

(Edit: I am, or was, having a conversation with Helloween on Twitter about Doctor Who, lol. And Jonathan Creek before that. Where was this guy when we were both single?! :p)

"We're on a road trip in our world," Marty says with a grin. "Across the United States and back again. I think Vic's having us hit California soon -- won't that be weird," he adds to Doc, who nods.
